| Top UK wrestlers
So, the question goes, who are the top wrestlers in the UK wrestling scene? Information collected through polls conducted over the year, states that Doug Williams tops the list, being followed by Darren Burridge, Johnny Kidd, Pac and finally Ashley Reed. Stiff competition is the word to describe the scenario in UK Wrestling, a whole lot of them sailing on the same boat, the exceptional one being Sam Slam, a future hot cake. He is young, can pull off impressive spots, has a great build, and has an amazing endurance, crossing the 20 min mark with Tracy Smothers and 30 min mark with the UK Pitbulls.
Doug Williams debuted in 1993; he was trained with and wrestled for NWA UK Hammerlock. Williams later became the promotion’s top champion. He has won many foreign and local championships, recently clinching the International Catch Wrestling Alliance World Heavyweight Championship after defeating Bryan Danielson.
Darren Burridge is considered to be one of the main faces of advertising on Sky’s TWC Fight!
Burridge became a popular wrestler in 1 Pro Wrestling, after the formation of Team S.H.A.G. Burridge faced Nigel McGuinness in a critically acclaimed and highly appreciated match considered by many as one of the best matches in 1PW history. Johnny Kidd is best known for his contribution to the world of UK Wrestling during its Golden Era. Kidd became a household name during this time, after which he signed up with Smoky Mountain Wrestling. Kidd found little success in modern wrestling, being a practitioner of the British Style of Wrestling.
Ben Satterley or Pac, is known for his high risk manoeuvres, which earned him the nickname "The Man That Gravity Forgot". Pac was among the 24 participants 2007 PWG Battle of Los Angeles Tournament; he was eliminated in the semi-finals. On Sept 15, Pac defeated the Dragon Kid to win the wXw light heavyweight championship. UK wrestling is definitely something to keep a look out for with deadly people like him around! |
